KG – EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE

Students in the KG phase (age 3 to 5 years) follow the UK Early Years Foundation Stage; the foundation stage of education is available to boys and girls aged 3 to 5 years.  This phase in education at ACS is referred to as KG (Kindergarten) and covers a two-year period:

  • KG1 for children aged 3 to 4 years
  • KG2 for children aged 4 to 5 years

The programme is The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a UK programme designed to prepare children for The National Curriculum for England delivered in the primary and secondary schools. The EYFS focuses on developing the whole child, including the social skills, knowledge and understanding that children need for the future. The medium of teaching is English, with Arabic as the language of instruction in Arabic and English and Arabic for Islamic Studies lessons.

Children in KG are introduced to reading and writing in English and Arabic, Science, Mathematics, ICT (Information and Communication Technology), and Islamic Studies. These subjects develop literacy and numeracy and are delivered through interactive and engaging lessons in which the children are encouraged and helped to develop their skills. The child’s progress is closely monitored and assessed against the UK Early Learning Goals.  Through structured play, children develop their speaking and listening skills and their ability to interact effectively with others. A lively programme of field trips, events and activities enrich their learning. Supported by a well-resourced library, computer facilities and designated playground areas, children in KG are encouraged to explore and develop their natural abilities and talents.

Parents are welcome to discuss their child’s individual progress and any concerns they may have, by making an appointment through the Parent Relations Officer (PRO) to meet the teacher concerned, the Head of KG or the Principal. The Parent Relations Officer’s role is to be the point of communication for parents with the school and parents should feel free to contact the PRO for assistance with any query.
